Ittehad
Chemicals Limited is one of the largest manufacturers of
industrial chemicals that produces Caustic Soda, Liquid Chlorine,
Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hypochlorite, Bleaching Earth
(Shaffaf), Sulphuric Acid Commercial and Zinc Sulphate
which are consumed in Textile, Soap, Paper, Fertilizers,
Power Generation, Metal, Vegetable Oil and Ghee, Agriculture,
Beverages and host of other industries of the country.
Ittehad Chemicals Limited, previously known as United
Chemicals, was established in 1964 by a private
entrepreneurial group with a capacity of 60 Metric Tons
of Caustic Soda per day, which was subsequently enhanced to 90
Metric
Tons per day in 1969. The project was nationalized in
1972 and production capacity of Caustic Soda was further increased to
150 Metric Tons per day in 1983.
After
the privatisation, the production capacity of Caustic Soda was increased to 190
Metric Tons per day through indigenous arrangements, debottlenecking and
addition of equipment, which helped feed its Clientele in a better way.
In
September 2003, another addition of 163 Metric Tons of Caustic Soda per day had
been made, based on the latest and state of the art, ion exchange membrane
technology, thus totaling the capacity as 350 Metric Tons per day of Caustic
Soda and 315 Metric Tons of Chlorine. This has been done to confront the
challenges, posing to industry, when WTO regime becomes fully operative.
Ittehad Chemicals Limited was privatized
in July 1995.
The company is now owned by a very dynamic and
forward looking enterprising group known as Chemi Group
of Industries. The plant is being run very efficiently through the efforts of most competent and
experienced engineers, skilled supervisors and workers,
thereby contributing a lot, not only for the well being
of the country, but also saving huge foreign exchange
and providing jobs to about 1000 people.
The
new management is actively busy in upgrading the plant
conditions which were very poor in the state-owned period,
by renovating the plant machinery and with addition of new
equipment, incurring huge expenditures. All such measures
are yielding results with sustained and reliable flow
of the industrial chemicals to the market as well as
to other
very vital consuming industries.
