identification:
Emergency Overview:
Danger!
Extremely corrosive! Cause severe burn and eye damage. Harmful
if inhaled, fatal if swallowed. Highly reactive with alkaline
materials. Not flammable, but reacts with most metal to
form explosive/flammable hydrogen gas.
First
Aid Measures:
General: corrosive effects on the skin and eyes may be delayed,
and damage may occur without the sensation or onset of pain.
Inhalation: move victims to fresh air. Give artificial respiration
only if breathing has stopped.
Skins
Contact: Immediately
flush skin with running water for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Eye
Contact: Immediately
flush eyes with running water for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Hold eyelids open during flushing.
Ingestion:
DO
NOT INDUCE VOMITING. If victim is alert and not convulsing,
rinse mouth and give 240 to 300 ml (8 to 10 oz) of water
to dilute material.
Fire
and Explosion Hazards:
Reacts
with many metals to liberate hydrogen gas, which can form
explosive mixtures with air.
Extinguishing
Media:
For large fires use all purpose type AFFF form according
to foam manufactures recommended techniques.
Fire
Fighting Procedures:
As appropriate for surrounding materials/equipment. Water
spray should be used to cool containers.
Evacuation:
If
tank, rail car tank truck is involved in a fire, ISOLATE
for 800 meters (1/2mile) is all directions.
